KIDS DAYS OUT
Heritage railways
Outdoor activities
For older kids (or with Mum and Dad)
Of course kids love castles and beaches, but there is so much more for them to do here in North East Wales.
One of the most popular destinations is Llangollen Station, home of a standard-gauge heritage railway that travels along the beautiful Dee Valley to Corwen, pulled by steam locomotive or diesel car. Events are staged throughout the year, including Thomas the Tank Engine weekends and Santa Specials at Christmas!
Little ones will love a canal trip by horse-drawn barge, and most will enjoy canoeing, whether a gentle paddle along the canal (older ones will even dare to cross the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct), or on the area’s largest man-made lake, Llyn Brenig.
Bikes can be hired at various locations for family rides on easy tracks, or for something more exhilarating, thrill to the chase through the forest in a sled pulled by a team of racing sled dogs.
The courageous may be tempted by tree-climbing on a grand scale at Zipworld Fforest, where tree-top adventures, giant bouncy nets and the Coaster dry toboggan run will exhaust even the most exuberant.
